ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Publication Ethics

  • In our journal, it is important that all stakeholders, especially the author(s), referees, editor and publisher, comply with the ethical principles standards. Within the scope of our journal's ethical responsibilities, all stakeholders have a responsibility to comply with ethical standards and ethical principles. Therefore, the author(s), referees, editor and publisher are expected to bear the following ethical responsibilities.

Ethical Responsibilities of the Author(s)

In the studies submitted to Aydın TÖMER Language Journal, the author(s) must comply with the following ethical responsibilities:

  • Articles submitted to our journal must be original. Articles submitted to our journal should not have been published anywhere before. The article submitted to our journal should not have been submitted to other journals for review in the same process/should not be in the referee process of another journal.
  • Since it has not been stated or determined that it has been published anywhere before, the legal consequences that may arise regarding the copyrights related to the published works belong entirely to the author(s).
  • The author(s) should not contact the persons involved in the evaluation process during and before the evaluation process of the article.
  • Quotes/citations from other sources must be stated accurately and completely.
  • The author(s) should cite scientific publications that will make a broader contribution to the prepared manuscript. Specially obtained information should not be used or reported without written permission from the source.
  • Plagiarism constitutes all kinds of unethical behavior in scientific studies and is unacceptable. Plagiarism reports should be prepared in the articles sent to our journal, and the prepared plagiarism report should be uploaded from the "upload plagiarism report" section while uploading the article to the system.
  • The exact list of the author(s) must be determined before submitting the article. Changing the author(s)of the article whose evaluation process has started (adding author, removing author, changing author order, etc.) cannot be offered.
  • If the article was supported by any person, institution or organization, that person, institution or organization should be mentioned as a footnote in the study. The author(s) is responsible for the permissions obtained from individuals, institutions and organizations.
  • The situations and relations that may constitute a conflict of interest, if any, of the article submitted for publication should be explained.
  • Raw data on the article can be requested from the author(s) during the evaluation process of the article. In this case, the author(s) should provide the requested data and information to the editorial board and scientific board as soon as possible.
  • Ethics committee approval must be obtained separately for the studies that are carried out with qualitative or quantitative approaches that require data collection from the participants using questionnaires, interviews, focus group work, observations, experiments, and interview techniques and require an ethics committee decision, and this approval must be specified and documented in the article.
  • The articles should include a statement that the Research and Publication Ethics are complied with.
  • In studies requiring ethics committee permission, information about the permission (board name, date and number) should be included in the method section and also on the first/last page of the article. In case reports, it is necessary to include information in the article that the informed consent form has been signed.
  • Copyright regulations must be complied with for the intellectual and artistic works used.
  • Non-university researchers can apply to the Ethics Committees in their regions for the Ethics Committee Report.
  • The author(s) must have the document showing that they have the necessary permissions regarding the rights of use of the data used in the article or that the consent of the experimental subjects has been obtained. Human subjects' privacy rights must be respected.
  • When the author(s) detects a significant deficiency or error in their article, they should immediately contact and inform the journal editor/publisher.
  • The author(s) should contact the editor for correction or withdrawal.
  • The author(s) must carry out the correction recommendations specified by the referee and the board.
  • The author(s) may object provided that they provide evidence against the referees' negative opinions. This objection is examined and if deemed necessary, a different arbitrator's opinion is consulted.
  • In order for the studies to be published, the author(s) must take into account the opinions and suggestions of the Referee and the Editorial Board.
  • Legal responsibilities arising from the content of the studies published in the journal belong entirely to the author(s).

 

 

Editor's Ethical Responsibilities

The journal editor must comply with the ethical duties and responsibilities included in thePublication Ethics Committee (COPE)“COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors” (It is also required to comply with the ethical responsibilities included in the "COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors"(https://publicationethics.org/files/u2/Best_Practice.pdf).

The editor is required to have and comply with the following ethical responsibilities:

  • The editor is responsible for each article published in the journal.
  • The editor must keep all records available in the journal system.
  • The editor must ensure that the article review process is fair, transparent, objective and timely.
  • The editor should ensure the continuous development of the journal and follow up-to-date scientific developments.
  • The editor should appoint referees who are experts in their field in accordance with the subject of the article.
  • The editor should keep the identity information of the referees confidential with the application of blind refereeing.
  • Privileged ideas and information obtained as a result of referee evaluations should be kept confidential. It should not be used for individual interests.
  • The editor should consider whether there is a conflict of interest between the referees and the author(s).
  • The editor must protect the confidentiality of all reports and content submitted to the journal by the author(s) and referees.
  • According to the peer review process, the editor decides whether the article should be approved, rejected or published after corrections. It has the right to edit, publish or not publish the studies submitted to the journal.
  • The editor should support freedom of thought. The authors should objectively evaluate the articles with their scientific and intellectual content without considering their race, gender, religious belief, ethnicity, citizenship or political opinion.
  • The editor should promote transparency and honest reporting in the journal's publication policies and process. Together with the publisher, it should establish a transparent system for appealing against editorial decisions.
  • The editor should ensure that authors and reviewers have a clear understanding of what is expected of them.
  • The editor should use the journal's standard electronic submission system for journal communications.
  • The editor should not make decisions about articles about products or services that he or she has written or that have been written by associated members or colleagues, or that the editor is interested in. It should not give rise to any possible editorial conflict of interest.
  • The editor should make appropriate use of the publisher's systems to detect abuses such as plagiarism.
  • The editor is responsible for protecting the intellectual property rights of all articles published in the journal. It is also obliged to defend the rights of the journal and the author(s) in possible violations.
  • The editor is responsible for taking the necessary measures to ensure that the content in the published articles does not infringe the intellectual property rights of other publications.
  • The editor must appoint at least two external and independent referees during the article evaluation process. Reviewers should seek additional input from the editor when necessary.
  • The editor can also send the article to the 3rd or 4th referee if needed.
  • The editor should provide the necessary information and guidance to the referees if they need it during the article evaluation phase.
  • When selecting referees, they should be selected from experts in their field. Fraudulent selection of arbitrators should be avoided.
  • The editor should review the self-attribution recommendations made by the referees to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
  • The editor should not require authors to refer to their own articles or to products and services owned by the editor.
  • When there is a reported or suspected misconduct, the editor, together with the publisher, should objectively and transparently review and evaluate the reports and record them.
  • The editor should not try to influence the journal's ranking by artificially increasing any journal metrics.
  • The editor should not request the inclusion of citations to the articles of this journal (or any other journal) except for genuine scientific reasons.
  • The editor should ensure that the process of impartial and timely evaluation of the articles is completed. The journal should implement the "Blind Review and Evaluation Process" policies in its publication policies.
  • The editor is responsible for the publication of each published article in accordance with journal publication policies and international standards.
  • The editor is responsible for protecting the personal data of the authors, referees and readers.

 

Ethical Responsibilities of Referees

Evaluation of the reviewed articles with "Blind Review" for objective and independent review increases the quality of the publication and provides confidence. For this reason, the principle of double-blind refereeing is applied in the article evaluation process in our journal. In our journal, the author(s) and referees cannot contact directly in the articles in the review process. The evaluations and comments of the referees are carried out through the journal management system. The opinions of the referees on the evaluation forms and the article text are conveyed to the authors by the editor. The reviewers' objective, independent and ethical completion of the evaluation process should be monitored by the editor.

The referees of our journal must have the following ethical responsibilities:

  • Reviewers must fulfill their ethical responsibilities in the article evaluation process.
  • Referees must agree to review work related to their field. They should not review articles outside their field.
  • Reviewers must adhere to the article review period.
  • Reviewers should complete the article evaluation process in an impartial and confidential manner.
  • Referees should carry out the evaluation process objectively, regardless of personal characteristics such as gender, religion, political, commercial conflicts, citizenship, etc. These personal characteristics should not influence the decisions of the arbitrators. The evaluation process should be completed objectively.
  • When reviewers consider that they are faced with a conflict of interest in the article evaluation process, they should inform the journal editor by refusing to evaluate the article.
  • Reviewers should use polite/constructive language and style when evaluating the article they are reviewing. They should avoid comments and statements that are offensive, insulting, slanderous and hostile.
  • Referees may only use the content of the studies they have reviewed in accordance with the principle of confidentiality after they have been published. They cannot use any information from rejected studies.
  • Reviewers may propose citations that will scientifically contribute to the author(s)' work. However, referees should not make suggestions in order to increase their own number of citations.
  • Reviewers should not have access to information about the identity of the author(s). In the event that the author(s)'information is accessed or received, the evaluation process should be terminated.
  • Referees should be aware of the personal biases that may occur during the refereeing process and take this into account when reviewing the article.
  • Referees should clearly and in detail write their reasons for the articles they will reject in the referee report.

 

Ethical Responsibilities of the Publisher

The publisher must comply with the following ethical responsibilities:

  • The publisher declares and undertakes the formation of impartial editorial decisions. The editor is responsible for the entire process of the work submitted to the journal. In this context, the decision maker is the editor, regardless of economic or political gains.
  • The publisher protects the ownership and copyright of every published work.
  • The publisher undertakes the obligation to keep a record of a copy of each published work.
  • The publisher has the responsibility to take measures to prevent scientific exploitation, all kinds of plagiarism and scientific misconduct against the editor, etc.
  • The publisher should play a nurturing, supportive and investor role in the scientific process.
  • The publisher should ensure that best practices are in place in the process.

 

Editorial Board Ethical Responsibilities

  • The editorial board should share their experience and experience in their area of expertise.
  • The editorial board should advise on journal policy and scope.
  • The editorial board should cooperate with the editor in order to ensure the development of the journal.
  • The editorial board should promote the journal and direct new and established authors to the journal.
  • The editorial board must ensure that the rules of conflict of interest are complied with.
  • The editorial board should review the articles submitted to the journal.
  • The editorial board should follow current developments and changes and contribute to the journal processes.
